Why a Personal Relationship with Christ is Important

It seems we all realize at some point in our lives that there is something missing for us as human beings.  People look around and try everything to fill the void or fix the problems in their lives. For some, it is self-help. For others, it's co-dependence with drugs and alcohol.  Either way, man as a whole realizes he needs fixing.  I want you to know we don’t need to be made over, but we need to be made new!

The Bible says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). All means everyone - you, me, them - everyone!  Sinned means we, by ourselves, have come up short, we have missed the mark, or we are separated from God.  That creates the void or empty place in our heart.  This separation means we are in a dangerous place.  If we die in this place of danger separated from God, then for all eternity we will be separated from God.  Our eternal place separated from God is called Hell.  Hell is a place of torment, a place God never intended for us, and because of our sin we are all headed there.

So, we realize our need to be rescued - to be saved! “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).  Jesus Christ is God’s only son.  He is our sinless savior who came to this earth to rescue or save us from the penalty of our sin.  God knows our condition, but it did not prevent Him from loving us. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). It is so awesome to know that God knows us, yet He loves us!

Are you able to be rescued? “For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved" (Romans 10:13). You are “whoever”! That means anyone! How does this rescue take place? “Calling” on the Lord is calling out or praying to Him.  “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).  When we call on the Lord in faith it means we trust what Jesus did for us when He gave His life for us on the cross.  He died for us. He shed His blood for us. His blood covers our sins in the eyes of God.  When we call on the Lord with faith to save us from our sins, He responds to us with grace. Grace is God’s divine favor.  It is his choice to do so.  He doesn’t respond in anger or wrath to you and me because Jesus, God’s own son, absorbed that on the cross when He died for us!

Jesus didn’t come to this world to impress the world with miracles (although He did many) - He came to save us from our sin.  He didn’t come to make us better - He came to make us over, to make us new! “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Knowing Jesus personally is so much more than knowing about Him.  You don’t have to wonder what He is about. He wants a personal intimate relationship with you! Our prayer for you is that you will surrender your life to Him. Come be with us at Chattahoochee or contact us if you have more questions.  We love you and we are praying for you!
